چکیده

Providing qualitative and quantitative haematologic references of neglected captive wild animals is pivotal for the sanctuary health management improvement. Changeable hawk eagles (Nisaetus chirratus) are abundantly kept in which no reference ever reported. This study aimed to present visual keys morphometric changeable eagles’ blood cells as standard further count. The peripheral smears were prepared collected from eight at Wildlife Rescue Centre Jogja then stained with 10-fold diluted Giemsa stain following manners. All slides inspected captured under camera-equipped microscope morphologically morphometrically evaluated using ImageJ version 1.52a. As naturally dark bright morph, we statistically compared parameters between morph-based groups. erythrocytes oval shaped occasional morphologic variation. Leukocyte consisted polymorphonucleated granulocytes - exception basophils lacked nuclear lobulation mononucleated agranulocytes. There significant differences (P<0.05) all erythrocyte parameters, heterophils diameter, lymphocytes diameter morph group. Overall, properties visually identical other avian species though morphometry might be comparatively different.

Blood platelet counts, morphology and morphometry in lions, Panthera leo.

Due to logistical problems in obtaining sufficient blood samples from apparently healthy animals in the wild in order to establish normal haematological reference values, only limited information regarding the blood platelet count and morphology of free-living lions (Panthera leo) is available. This study provides information on platelet counts and describes their morphology with particular ref...

Rescue of a small declining population of Spanish imperial eagles

The Spanish imperial eagle (Aquila adalberti) is one of the most endangered raptors in the world. The population of Doñana National Park (south-western Spain) suffered a dramatic decline from 1990 on, after a long period of stability. The high adult mortality due to poisoning was the main cause of the decline, decreasing fecundity and biasing the offspring sex ratio to males due to a higher pro...
